Ce livre s’intéresse à trois notions : la crise, la violence et la dé-civilisation. Elles constituent les trois angles morts de l’histoire du monde, tant la connaissance scientifique que l’on peut en avoir ne permet ni de les comprendre pleinement, ni de les combattre efficacement. Elles ont pourtant une dimension universelle et une histoire longue. Il importe de continuer à se pencher sur ces trois notions, car la crise ne conduit pas nécessairement au chaos, à la violence et à la destruction, et la dé-civilisation ne relève d’aucune fatalité. Une crise peut aussi présenter une chance inédite pour une société de développer une conscience critique sur son passé et se projeter dans un avenir radicalement différent de son présent.
