ABSTRACT : TURKEY-GERMANY : TUMULTUOUS PARTNERSHIP, INDISSOLUBLE BONDS

This text highlights two key moments when “mistakes” have been made in the course of contemporary Turkish-German relations : the moment when Berlin challenges Turkey’s ontological vocation to one day join the European Union (20062007) and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s trip to Istanbul in October 2015, just ten-day before parliamentary election in Turkey where Erdogan’s party was on the move, to convince the Turkish President to sign the agreement on filtering refugee flows to Europe. Secondly, this article analyses the role of the Turkish diaspora in the transformation of the mental universe of today’s Germany through what literary critics have called “the Turkish turn of contemporary German literature”.
