Emmanuel Szurek travaille sur l’histoire sociale et intellectuelle du nationalisme turc, d’une part, sur l’histoire transnationale des orientalistes et de la science orientaliste, d’autre part. Il a notamment publié de nombreux articles en français, anglais et turc sur les réformes linguistiques dans la Turquie du parti unique (changement d’alphabet, épuration onomastique, théories linguistiques) et a coédité « Turcs et Français. Une histoire culturelle 1960-1960 », avec Güneş Işıksel, aux Presses Universitaires de Rennes, en 2014, et « Transturcologie. Une histoire transnationale des études turques », avec Marie Bossaert, au European Journal of Turkish Studies, en 2017. Il présente dans cette interview ses objets d’étude, ainsi que leurs résonances avec le thème du festival Allez Savoir 2022, « À contre-temps ».
